Statement of Intent to Register…and have a great 4 years!
On 4/28/12, I SIR’d to….dun dun dun… UC DAVIS! Aggies <3
It is the 28th and yes, I only had about 4 more days to decide where I would spend the next four years of my life at. It was a difficult decision with all the great choices I had, but I think I knew that I would come to Davis after going on the overnight.
Why did I choose Davis over Cal, LA, SD, and Cornell (and USC and Rochester - but they were out long ago)? I think I will anticipate this question a lot over the next few months especially from people who don’t know my financial situation or don’t know what I want to do.
Most people look to the rankings and choose the “best” school they get into. I simply don’t have that option. Honestly, I loved Cornell. It was beautiful and the College of Human Ecology aligned with my desire for interdisciplinary study across the biological and social sciences. Of course the cons are it is across the nation and the financial aid at Cornell is not as generous for families with our financial situation. heck, I haven’t even gotten a financial aid offer yet since they keep asking for verification.
I also decided that distance is a pretty big factor on where I want to go. I don’t mind being an hour or two away by plane but 6 hours by plane with transfers is a big hard. So that left me with California schools…
Ultimately, it came down to the opportunities that I would get at the school and how it will prepare me for medical school. Also the people and environment. Davis has great programs for the biological sciences as well as the Regents Scholarship and ISHP opportunity are great. Someone told me that we consistently consider all the opportunities that we would be getting at each school and weigh how many there are, but we probably won’t get to all of them. That is true, and even though I wanted a new adventure like at SD or LA, it wasn’t enough to seal the deal. At the same time, I think at Davis I would have the most opportunity to do as much as I want. Also the college town feel is great. I think I was quite split between the college town feel and the urban excitement of LA or Berkeley, but Davis’ offer was better. Also the level of support at Davis and collaboration is something that I’ve always respected and admired, and Berkeley’s “self-motivated,” “get it yourself” demands seemed less appealing to me.
While I thought about the prestige and the name and how I would get a more “wow” response to names like Berkeley and LA, I decided that there were things more important to me like environment, opportunities, and aid.
Ultimately, I’m very happy with what I’ve decided, and honestly, I cannot wait to embrace the new opportunities and struggles of the next four years.

Today has been rough. I know I made so many mistakes today, and I don’t know how to fix them.
For my weekend quest a few weeks back, I wrote down, “Goodbye cold heart,” hoping I would be able to warm up to all of the people who have been there for me. But no, I’m a fucking cold bitch, and I keep pushing people away. I keep saying the wrong things.

Hello Region 17 Key Clubbers!
Are you ready for the biggest benefit rally in the history of Region 17? On March 31st, 2012, D12S, D12W, D12E, D34S, D34N, and D43 will compete in the eliminator games. Divisions will compete against each other in spirit, cheers, and competitions. This is our final push to do our part, as Key Clubbers, to support the Eliminate Project.
Why?
In 2011, Kiwanis International partnered with UNICEF and the Eliminate Project to remove maternal/neonatal tetanus from the face of the earth, adopting the project as our own 4 year project. This disease is the reason for the death of 1 newborn baby every 9 minutes, 160 babies a day. The dark reality is when a newborn baby is cut from their umbilical chord with just an unsanitary blade in some third world countries. These same babies eventually begin to shake and tantrum from the pain of the disease. After, the babies are put in a dark room, left to die, simply because proper equipment cannot be afforded. But for just 1.80 USD, vaccinations and equipment can be provided for 3 women. These women will be enlightened and share their story with other mothers who need the vaccination. This chain will only continue and eventually maternal/neonatal tetanus will be eliminated. The 2011-2012 Key Club term is almost over but Key Clubbers in region 17 can respond to this amount of time as our final push to give our part the Eliminate Project. Kiwanis international looks to us, Key Clubbers, as the upcoming leaders ready to do their part. We can bring light to these babies, women, and families, we can ILLUMINATE TO ELIMINATE.
What?
Cupertino Key Club along with Division 34 South has organized the very first Cali-Nev-Ha Region 17 indoor benefit rally for the Eliminate Project. Divisions 12S, 12E, 12W, 34S, 34N, 43 will compete in mini competitions and of course, spirit. Each division will send over one hundred members and will select 20 competitors to challenge the athletes from the other divisions to find who is the supreme eliminator. Along with the competition atmosphere, divisions will battle each other to find who has the most spirit. Divisions can spirit battle, cheer, and showcase their spirit during their 30 second division showcase. Judges will then score each division and announce who is the top eliminator. To finish off the day, the entire region will dance and celebrate our effort towards the Eliminate Project.
